So I try, but often still I am a slacker

Its been a couple weeks since my last blog post.  I am trying to get in the habit of posting every Wednesday.  So I am not perfect yet.  If you want a very consistent blog check out Kyle Stevens.  His blog is on time every week and generally a better read than these that I have posted.

Soooooo, to catch you up on all that has been going on, just about two weeks ago I played a great show with Ben Ekstedt and the The Side Project. The show was at Columbia City Theater.  This was my first time at that theater and I have to say, other than it being pretty far south, we had a great time and their staff was amazing.  Its always frustrating when the venue is perfect but not in a prime location.  Anyway, had fun listening to Ben and the Side Project cover “Hit Me Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears.  They did a great job.  The band and I grabbed some dinner with our old bass player, Alec Bye, and my parents.  And then headed over to play our spot.  We had a great time performing on a bigger stage, and hope to make it onto stages similar sooner than later.

Following this great show, Jessica and I headed to Cave B Estate Winery and the inn at SageCliffe.  IOut our patio at Cave B had played their new venue called the Cave several months prior and now we were headed back to stay in one of their cliffehouses.  These are faboulus one room spots, all with river views.  I took this picture sitting outside on our little patio one morning.

Following this trip to Cave B, we spent a couple days with Jessica’s parents down on Anderson Island.  Never been but I would go back.  It was alot of fun and very relaxing.

I also must note that although its taking us awhile there is a new song coming called Armor.  Stay tuned…

To the beach

Well, this week had me off to North Myrtle Beach, SC.  My grandpa has been renting a beach house there for about 20 years and we all go meet up with my Dad’s side of the family for a little lazy hanging out.  House that is rented is right on the beach and all I can say is its amazing.  There is nothing like waking up and walking out on the back porch to this…  Anyway, it was a little short lived as Jess and I flew home a couple days early to get over to Spokane for a show at the Blue Spark and her friends wedding at the CDA Resort. I included a few more pics below so take a look. Also we have a huge show coming up with the Bradfords and Ben Ekstead.  The show is Aug 9th at Columbia City Theater.  I have advance tix so if your interested let me know.    Short blog post this week as I am trying to get ready to go to Spokane… hope to see friends over there. tj

To kill or be killed

I have a recommendation, do not go hiking if you have not been working out at a gym or hiking on a consistent basis.  And even if you have been working out at a Gym for say 2 months, make sure you are running or walking the stair stepper for at least 20-40 minutes.  I only say this because my dad, for fathers day, wanted to go hiking.  That being said, I was thinking a short 1-2 hour hike.  Something easy, nothing to hard, after all neither of us hike much.  Rewind to Sunday at the top of big Mount Si.  I have not worked so hard for much of anything recently.  This thing kicked my butt like few things ever had.  What started out(for the first 100 feet) turned into a 20% grade for almost 4 miles.  In case you think thats not far… You are insane.  That was a million mile for each step.  I did not prepare well, I ate corn puffs for breakfast(not knowing hat I was getting into) and did not have enough to eat at the top.  Truthfully we stopped at a Chevron Station and I bought two health food granola bars.  NOT ENOUGH SUSTENANCE.  Anyway, I did survive and even though I am not smiling I did have a good time.  (more…)

Better late than never

So this is supposed to be posted last Wednesday.  I am just a slacker…  So two weekends ago, Jess and I packed up the car and cruised over to Spokane and Coeur D’ Alene for a short weekend. While on the road Jess and Bynson (our dog) fell asleep with Jess.  I shot this little pic with my cell phone.   When we finally got to Spokane we hung out with our good friends Brandon and Sarah and met new friends Kyle Jen.  We had a great dinner with them and then cruised over to Farwest Billiards  to perform that evening.  After a good show, a good beer (New Belgiums 1554 on tap at Farwest) we hung out at Brandon and Sarahs apartment.

The next day we headed over to Coeur D’Alene, hung out with Zach and Tawnya Mathers.  This was Friday and we didn’t have much time to hang out because we had to drive up to Sandpoint, ID.  A great little town in north Idaho.   I performed at Pend O’Reilly Winery.  Its a great winery in Sandpoint with great wine.  Met some great people and had alot of fun.

Sadly the weekend on the East side of the state was short.  I had another show at the Jet in Mill Creek with Dan Purser.  It was a great weekend and we can’t wait to see our friends in Spokane and CD’A in a couple weeks. This wednesday, new blog, Making beer, Killing myself on a hike, and the east coast… tj

Catch up and on the bandwagon

Your all going to laugh at me.  Really you are.   I am deciding from here on out to keep this blog up.  Every Wednesday, I will post something new something old, something borrowed, something…  So for now here is some catch up.  And a note, due to technical difficulties with the camera, some of these things have images and some don’t…   I’ll start with Cave B.  I got to go stand on stage at the Gorge.  Most performers around here will understand the rush that this was.Gorge   The stage is huge… I could get lost just walking around.  Anyway, it was a great experience.  Jessica and I got to have dinner with the Bryan’s at Cave B’s Sagecliffe restaurant, and then after a fabulous dinner, we drove the 30 seconds up to the cellar.  The Cellar is carved out of a rock with one side being the tasting room and the other being solid rock.  The Cellar the space is great and as it filled with people, I got ready to play.  One interesting note, The Bryans who own the winery and they started the Gorge, attended the performance.  Its pretty scary to play for people who have heard the best of the best in the business.  Vince told me about hearing Stevie Ray Vaughn and Bob Dylan jam… I am not either of those guys… Scary…. Anyway, great performance, great time, phenomenal wine, and great people.

More recently, we played for Covington Cellars.  They were releasing several great wines.  David and Cindy Lawson with Morgan, make some great wine, and we had a great time.  We also wound up barrel tasting several wines that will be released in the next couple years.  Its a great experience to taste wine from the barrel and talk about it with one of the wine makers.More next week… stay tuned for a new song called Armor.   tj
